#27 - [Audio Post]

[The audio on Stephen's device crackles to life, and when he speaks his voice is low and husky - he sounds tired or hungover. Possibly both.]

[a few minutes later and there's a jangle of keys in the door as Stephen lets himself in. He's a bit beardier since Neil last saw him, and he has dark circles under his eyes.]

[Neil is sitting on the couch when he arrives, and as soon as Stephen walks in, Neil jumps to his feet and goes to him.

And then hesitates and just... stands there.]

I'm like, really tired, though. It was nighttime when I left, so...

[He scoops up Little Neil from where he was dozing on the couch, and then makes a hasty retreat to his bedroom.]

[Neil watches him go, cycles through several half-formed protest in his mind, but in the end he says nothing. He stands there for a moment, unresolved. Finally, he follows suit and shuts himself up in his room.]

[Stephen collapses on the couch, cat hair be damned. Uh, he really really hates the talking part. But he kind of feels like his head might explode any minute, and Curt is one of the people he can trust not to make a big deal out of any of this.]

So uh, when I went back home for a while. And things with Julie weren't really that great when I left in the first place, and they just got fucking worse when I went back. She was just being such a BITCH about everything. And I know people think she's like that all the time, but most of the time she takes it easy on me and we work, you know? But lately...

There was this one night a couple of weeks ago and I was staying at her place and she was REALLY pissing me off. And she just fucking snapped for no reason and then I snapped and we got in this huge argument and we broke up. Again.

But I dunno, I was still kinda pissed off about it and I went out and got really wasted and I don't think I was thinking straight...

[He drops his head against the couch, and the next line is muffled from behind the cushions.]

I kinda, sorta, had sex with my friend Joseph?
